About Nick Petrangelo
American professional poker player Nick Petrangelo plays the game. On January 2nd, 1987, he was born in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts.
He has won the gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker twice. His bracelets were earned in two different tournaments: the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller event in 2018 and the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout event in 2015. He has won $23.072 million total in live tournament payouts.
He has also had remarkable success in the high stakes online MTT arena, winning the High Roller division of the 2017 WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker). On PokerStars, his user name is “caecilius”.

He was an enthusiastic amateur hockey and golf player while growing up in Massachusetts. He earned a degree in Economics and Finance from Skidmore College in New York.
Here’s what he had to say about poker:
“In high school, I enjoyed playing with my friends and became quite interested in the game, which motivated me to learn as much as I could on my own. I also read every book I could find, but I still had no idea what I was doing. I assumed I was competent, but I was unaware of my ignorance. While I was in school, I tried to scrape together as much money as I could to use on PokerStars or to visit a casino, starting at the lowest stakes cash games and working my way up to $5/$10 and, of course, losing it all ultimately.
Then I met Jonathan Jaffe, a seasoned poker player. I’ve discovered that if I wanted to compete seriously, I had to alter my strategy. I shared a small geographic region of Massachusetts with Jonathan. He was my mentor. He answered all of my questions, coached me, and allowed me to watch him play for years. He also supported me in low-stakes competitions. I won $1700 for finishing third in the $3 rebuy on PokerStars when I turned 21. I left the golf course and never got a job again!”

According to his Hendon page, Petranngelo has $23.072 million in live tournament winnings. This total is the sum of ITM finishes from 124 distinct live events over a 13-year period. He now ranks in the top 25 on the site’s all-time wealth list and in the top 20 in the USA.
His profile’s first monetary transaction dates back to January 2009. At the Winter Poker Meltdown in Verona, New York, he finished fourth in a $560 NLHE 6-handed tournament and took home $3,958. In January 2015, he made his first live cash win of more than $100,000. At the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas, he won the $5,300 No Limit Hold’em – Turbo 8-Handed tournament for $103,853.
Later on in the year, he produced two more significant scores. He earned €592,840 for placing third in the €10,300 NLHE High Roller 8-Max tournament at the EPT Barcelona in August 2015. He placed second in the $100,000 WPT Alpha8 – NLHE High Roller at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas in December 2015, earning $1.015 million.
In January 2017, Petrangelo came in as a notable runner-up once more. He earned $740,032 by finishing in second place in the $25,750 NLHE High Roller event at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas. He finished sixth in the $300,000 NLHE Super High Roller Bowl at the Aria in May 2018. He received at least $600,000 in compensation for such performance.
The Massachusetts-based American poker player also holds a victory from another illustrious tournament series. He won the A$100,000 No Limit Hold’em Challenge event at the Aussie Millions in January 2017 at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, for A$882,000 (about $666K at the time).
At the brand-new high roller series Stairway to Millions at the Aria in January 2022, he won two events in the span of two days (!). He won the $100K NLHE tournament the following day for $1.026 million after dominating the star-studded fields in the $50K NLHE event for $567,000.

So far, Nick Petrangelo has taken home two gold WSOP bracelets.
He won the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout competition in 2015 for $201,812. Every table in a “shootout” tournament functions as a separate “mini-tournament.” Each table’s winner advances to the following round, when new tables are formed from the winners of the previous round.
He received $2.910 million for winning the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller event in 2018. Petrangelo’s most significant live tournament result to date is that. He won the championship after defeating fellow American poker pro Elio Fox in a head-to-head match.
He earned $720,103 for placing third in the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller (Big Blind Antes) event that year, which was also in 2018. He finished seventh in the High Roller for One Drop – $111,111 NLHE event two years prior, in 2016, earning $628,679. He finished fifth in the $50,000 NLHE High Roller during the 50th Annual Event in 2019 and earned $335,181. Finally, he had a strong performance in the Main Event in 2021 before breaking out in 45th place for $163,900.
Petrangelo has earned a total of $5.735 million in payouts from his 25 World Series appearances.

On PokerStars, Petrangelo goes by the user name “caecilius.” This strange selection for a screen name refers to a banker who worked in the first century AD in the Roman Empire.
Although Petrangelo’s online MTT scoresheet is no longer accessible to the general public on the online poker event database PocketFives, numerous accounts of his significant online victories have been published by poker news websites.
He won the $25K WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) High Roller event in September 2017 for $624,677. In September of the following year, for a total of $40,488, he triumphed in a $2,100 Sunday High Roller on Stars.
